After the satisfaction of completing Ivan Doig: Landscapes of a Western Mind (for which I was editor and co-writer) and the privilege of witnessing it live out in the world, it’s been an honor to see it receive attention this awards season.
The film received five Northwest Emmy Award nominations: Editor - Long Form Content, Writer - Long Form Content, Documentary - Cultural/Historical, Photography, and Director. Next, I was honored to learn that my co-writer and I had received the Montana Broadcasters Association E. B. Craney Award for long form writing. And then the film additionally received three Telly Awards.
I’m very grateful to have been in the company of such amazing work and to Montana PBS and 4:08 Productions for having me on board. In the spirit of Doig, it’s been wonderful to recognize that storytelling is certainly about the craft, but also about the community of storytellers. A place is made so much richer by many storytellers sharing their experiences and voices.
